Detroit’s Auto Show Returns to January

This year, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit returns to its January date. The last time it was in January was in 2019. After the pandemic, the show happened in September with outdoor activities and exhibits. The public turn out may not have been what they had expected, but the demand was to put it back in January, so here we are.

My last time at a booth in 2019

I personally prefer it in January because the city has more to look forward to after the holidays. It’s Also pretty nostalgic and traditional to go to the auto show in the winter because it gave you something to do when you’re back in school and enjoy some weekend activities. At least, that is what I used to think as a kid. We would go to the auto show to look at all the fancy cars, get in the cars, talk about which ones we wanted when we grew up. I started doing tours and my tour company would work at booths in the main hallway of the show, but I never really attended as an adult. Then my kids started getting asked to perform at the show, but we never really attended then either. So this year, I plan on going to enjoy the auto show as an adult and an attendee to see all the new cars and just experience the show.

Our booth set up. 2019

This year there will be 4 tracks to test out vehicles, more than 30 different brands represented, 20+ attractions, and a Mobility Global Forum held during Industry Days (held concurrently with the show). Check out this video they posted titled, “Dear Detroit”.

I encourage you to check out this year’s show at Huntington Place from January 11 – 20, 2025. You can purchase tickets online or at the door. The show has various hours, but check the website for more details. Get out and enjoy the city for the auto show and just in general. The ice rink is still open at Campus Martius until March, so there is still plenty to do in the city.

At Valade Park on the east Riverfront, the Winter at Valade starts this Friday at 5pm. There will be a special drone show at 7pm in honor of the Lions “We Want More” tour courtesy of our neighbors to the south, Ontario. Check out the website for the weekly winter activities there.

Enjoy your weekend!!
